E-Crane barge-haul equipment is capable of unloading two 35- ◊ 195-foot barges at up to 2,000 tons per hour. Several models offer outreach up to 150 feet and duty-cycle capacity up to 50 tons.
E-Crane's parallelogram design features a hydraulic pivoting, mechanically linked counterweight that keeps the system in balance, reducing power requirements up to 50%. The vector-opposed, barge-haul system comprises upstream/downstream winches ó one forward, one trailing ó that work in tandem with a 7/8-inch-diameter steel cable, including two master links with hitch rope for tying to the barge. A continuous barge-breasting cable secures the barge against drifting away from the river cell or dock face.
Each of two winches mounted to dock-cell tops has a 14,000-pound rated capacity on a single layer (21,000 pounds starting) at a variable rope speed of 0-30 feet per minute. Totally enclosed, three-phase winch motors are 15 horsepower, 0-1,800 rpm, 460v, 60Hz, inverter duty and blower cooled. A motor-mounted disc brake is dust- and water-tight.
To substitute an empty barge for a full one, the system can be manned from inside the operator's cab or by ground personnel at a remote location. Local controls are mounted at each winch. It has a push-button station inside the cab and a foot switch for hands-free barge hauling to permit simultaneous unloading.

Now available in North America for 100-ton mining trucks using the 49-inch E4, the 27.00R49 X-Traction tire is designed for earthmover transport equipment operating in rocky terrain. New 33-inch [21.00R33; 18.00R33] and 35-inch [24.00R35] X-Traction tires ó debuting in 2011 and September 2010, respectively ó also are designed for smaller, rigid-frame trucks used at quarries.
Because rigid-frame dump trucks require significant tread life and traction levels, as well as sidewall and tread-area damage resistance, these tires incorporate cooling system shoulder design and C2 technology casing architecture. Both innovations contribute to reduced heat build-up, product engineers say, enabling trucks to operate continuously at higher speeds.
Due to a tread that is up to 13% deeper, the new tire offers up to 15% longer life, the manufacturer says, and is also easier to retread. Plus, thicker under-tread rubber reportedly improves resistance to cuts and impacts.
Compared to its XDT tire, the company says, the X-Traction casing reduces fuel consumption by up to 5%, potentially saving nearly $4,000 a year. The fuel savings stand to lower carbon emissions by an estimated 14.5 tons annually.

TIER 3 MINING ENGINES
Recently unveiled as MSHA, CANMET and Tier 3-certified mechanical engines for underground mining, the N45 4 MSS X and the N67 MNT X can be configured for man trips, roof bolters, personnel carriers and service centers. The 99-horsepower N45 MSS X is an in-line, four-cylinder engine; and the 175-horsepower, in-line N67 MNT X has six cylinders. They have low ventilation rates of 4,000 and 6,500 cfm, respectively. The engines are available as a module with cooling package, providing a drop-in solution for repower needs related to older air-cooled engines.

CALIPER DISC BRAKE
The 520 Series caliper disc brake for on- and off-highway braking applications uses a modulated hydraulic pressure source, such as a master cylinder, to control brake torque. The new hydraulic apply, fixed caliper-type unit can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position, and linings can be replaced without removing the brake. It can be attached directly to a threaded hanger or clamp.
It includes two ductile-iron caliper halves pressurized by a single inlet-port crossover tube, allowing hydraulic pressure to actuate the 2.25-inch-diameter piston in each half. The unit provides 1,000-psi continuous and 1,500-psi intermittent duty pressure. Weighing about 17 pounds, the brake requires a minimum 15-inch disc diameter.
To reduce lining wear, a spring-operated lining-retractor mechanism maintains a constant lining-to-rotor disc clearance whenever the brake is not applied. Total lining contact area is 12.4 square inches, with 0.32-inch-thick usable lining on each side.
RADIAL TRAVEL TRACKS
Partnered with the TeleStacker conveyor, Radial Travel Tracks offer high-capacity radial stockpiling where maximum flotation and traction are required, such as low-pressure soils, sand or wet clay. Combined use with the track-mounted mobile pivot base can provide free-ranging on-site and transfer point mobility, as well as radial travel capability. Bolt-on installation allows retrofitting the radial tracks onto fleet conveyors.
The system comprises two 24-inch steel tracks on each side of the conveyor that attach directly to the FD axle radial fold-down arms, yet are removable for road portability. Designed to reuse existing planetary drives, the radial travel tracks are equipped with hydraulic hoses and fitting connections.
Also available are nonpowered travel tracks for use on short stackers, jump or grasshopper conveyors. These can be bolted on over the standard tire hub.
PERSONAL FALL LIMITER
MSA's Workman personal fall limiter has a lightweight, thermoplastic housing; impact-absorbing protective bumpers; and cable or web lifeline. Additional properties and benefits include a 400-pound working capacity, integral load indicator and no annual recertification requirement. It is available with a range of connector choices and assemble-to-order options.
Three new, heavy-duty versions of the company's COP 1800 series hydraulic rock drills now are available: COP 1638HD, COP 1838HD and COP 2238HD. Designed for underground drilling, the COP 1800HD series works in long-hole or face drilling with a hole range of 38 to 64 mm. New features include a side-bolt design with four front bolts and two rear bolts, minimizing risk of impact piston misalignment and secondary damages to internal parts. Moreover, side-bolt torque procedures contribute to serviceability. In addition, the front head has been strengthened to absorb more shock.
GROUND FAULT DETECTION SYSTEM
A new ground fault detection system provides protection on variable frequency drive (VFD)-equipped machines. The system was developed to detect and trip an output circuit off-line when a ground fault occurs on VFD equipment operating at low to synchronous speeds. Features include built-in test, incorporating primary window current injection; zero-sequence fault-sensing current transformer; latched operation on fault activation requiring manual reset; adjustable pick-up sensitivity; and fault indication via indicator lamp. The system functions with UVR protection-equipped breakers and minimizes nuisance tripping when applied on power bus with multiple VFDs operating. It is available as stand-alone Model 35763 Ground Fault Detector, or as an integral part of the Model 25593-2 ground monitor/fault assembly.
