Graniterock Donates To Horse Show

During a week-long horse show event in California next month, equestrians typically are not thinking about the cleanup involved after hundreds of horses and their riders compete in hunting and jumping competitions. Graniterock will dedicate a fleet of trucks to remove the manure.

The Menlo Charity Horse Show benefits the Vista Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired. During the weekís events, a 1,000-pound horse can generate 0.75 cubic feet of manure each day, translating into more than 80 truck loads of manure to be removed. To minimize potential environmental and regulatory problems, proper handling of manure and effective use of waste is imperative.

Throughout the week, Graniterock will load manure into its trucks and haul it to a quarry that is in the process of reclamation. The manure will be spread over acreage that is to be revegetated and seeded with California native plants.
