Georgia Associations Advocate for Aggregates

The Georgia Construction Aggregate Association (GCAA) has spent the summer advocating for the industry and bringing lawmakers to local operations, according to the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA).

Recently, members of the GCAA hosted Rep. Jody Hice (R-Ga.), at a tour of the Vulcan Materials’ Norcross Quarry. Rep. Hice did not support the FAST Act surface transportation reauthorization in December, and the tour included a roundtable luncheon where attendees encouraged him to continue to look for ways to support long-term highway funding.

“We really appreciated the chance to sit down with Rep. Hice and talk with him about the benefits of investing in Georgia’s infrastructure,” said Jeff Wansley, GCAA executive director.

Republican lawmakers Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and state Sen. Brandon Beach also recently toured the Argos Ready Mix Plant in Cumming, Ga., at an event organized by the Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association and GCAA member company Bluegrass Materials.

In June, GCAA also cohosted an event with several member companies in honor of Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Ga., who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and was an advocate and supporter of the FAST Act.

NSSGA wants to make it easy for any operation to host their elected officials for a visit. Learn more about how easy it can be to create a quarry tour here.
