Aggregate Industries' McHenry Sand and Gravel site received the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP) Industry Leadership Award, the highest level recognition awarded by the IAAP. This award is given to member mine sites that have demonstrated leadership in the industry while promoting the image and wellbeing of their mine sites, employees and the industry as a whole.
“We’re honored to receive this recognition from the IAAP and are proud of our team who worked hard to participate in association activities as well as environmental stewardship, community outreach and safety-focused programs,” said Randi Wille, director of land and environment, Mid-America Region at Aggregate Industries.
The IAAP Leadership Award is given to member sites whose employees have participated frequently in association activities and that have received other IAAP awards and certificates for programs in several potential areas, including safety, public information and education, environmental issues, sustainability, specifications and technical issues, and legislation.
The McHenry Sand and Gravel site met these criteria in several ways, including maintaining zero citations for environmental compliance issues; hosting students from local schools at the site; organizing a neighborhood open house for the community to learn about what the site does; and improving its safety record over the past year.
