The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) launched its new website at www.NSSGA.org. The site features updated graphics, new sections, improved functionality and much more.
On its updated news pages, a letter signed by Pete Lien, president, Pete Lien & Sons, Inc., chairman, NSSGA Government Affairs Committee; and Pamela J. Whitted, senior vice president of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, NSSGA, detailed the association’s government affairs accomplishments for the year.
“Our team began 2013 by producing ‘NSSGA’s Agenda for the First Session of the 113th Congress,’ a handout detailing the legislative priorities of the association for the year,” the letter noted. “Also updated and revamped were ‘NSSGA’s Public Policy Position Papers,’ a 60-page booklet containing in-depth background information and talking points on key issues with potential impacts on the aggregates industry. Both have proved to be invaluable tools in educating new and veteran members of Congress on the industry’s interests and goals.
“As a leader in the highway construction industry, it is incumbent upon NSSGA and its members to develop our own set of principles and a broad vision for what should and should not be in the next highway bill,” the letter said. “This led to the formation of the NSSGA Surface Transportation Task Force, chaired by Anne Lloyd with Steve Sloan serving as vice chair and eight additional members contributing their time.”
The letter also details the association’s lobbying and outreach efforts, the fight against aggressive MSHA enforcement, and much more.
“Your government affairs team and the Health, Safety, and Environment Division together will not hesitate to strike back against silly political partisanship and unrelenting federal regulations that have stifled business development in recent years,” the letter said. “But your continuous help and involvement through calls, letters, facility tours, fly-ins, and feedback are crucial to success.”
