Niagara, Ontario, Canada-based Walker Industries Holdings Ltd. purchased Amherst Quarries, which has two locations, one located south of Windsor, Ontario, the other in the town of Amherstburg. Approximately 25 employees work for the company.
“This acquisition gives Walker a footprint in the aggregates business in southwestern Ontario,” said Ken Lucyshyn, the company’s vice president responsible for aggregates and construction.
“We are looking to grow our aggregates division by acquiring new businesses and expanding our existing ones. We’re interested in pursuing opportunities which allow us to expand geographically or replace depleting aggregate resources.”
Walker Industries was established in 1887 and has been owned by five generations of the Walker family. The Walker group of companies includes aggregates, construction, emulsions, environmental project management, waste management, renewable energy projects and green building. They employ more than 400 workers. Walker Aggregates has 10 operations in the Niagara, Simcoe and Grey county areas.
