M. Luis Construction Co. acquired an asphalt facility in Rockville, Md., from Lafarge North America Inc. and it plans to hire up to 100 employees in the next six months. M. Luis, which did not disclose financial terms of the deal, is a women- and minority-owned construction and paving company. Its new acquisition at 14811 Southlawn Lane can produce up to 300 tons of asphalt per hour and about 250,000 tpy. M. Luis plans to invest about $5 million in the plant this year.
“In addition to being a great day for our company, this is also great news for the State of Maryland and the local economy,” M. Luis President Cidalia Luis-Akbar said in a statement.
M. Luis has applied to the Maryland Department of Transportation for Minority Business Program Certification as an asphalt manufacturer, putting it in line to compete for state contracts with the transportation department.
