MSHA To Publish Final Rule on Workplace Exams

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will publish a final rule on Examinations of Working Places in Metal and Nonmetal Mines that amends a final rule published on Jan. 23, 2017.

Dodge Momentum Index Climbs in March

The Dodge Momentum Index moved 6.1 percent higher in March, rising to 155.0 (2000=100) from the revised February reading of 146.0. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.

Bad Roads and Bridges Cost Illinois Drivers Billions of Dollars

Roads and bridges that are deteriorated, congested or lack some desirable safety features cost Illinois motorists a total of $16.4 billion statewide annually – as much as $2,485 per driver in some urban areas – due to higher vehicle operating costs, traffic crashes and congestion-related delays.

MSHA Issues New Serious Accident Alert

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reported that on March 24, two miners were using a man-lift to charge (load) blast holes with non-electric blasting caps, 8-grain boosters and ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) blasting agent.
