Maine Quarries Facing Push-Back

A conflict over quarries in Bangor, Maine, continued at a Business and Economic Development Committee meeting, according to WABI TV 5.

At the meeting, the committee reviewed the city's quarry and blasting permitting process. Neighbors of the new quarry on Union Street say they're concerned about their property values and excessive noise.

None of those neighbors were at a recent meeting, but one of the co-owners of the quarry was. He says he's more than willing to talk with neighbors to come up with a solution.

Rodney Gardner told the station that there's been a lot of talk that the quarry needs to go and obviously that's not acceptable to him. There is currently a case before a judge, appealing the city's planning board decision to allow a quarry in Bangor.

The city manager says she doesn't know when a ruling on that case will be issued.
