Connecticut Quarry Questioned
Some residents of Bozrah, Conn., are blasting a proposed quarry, saying the rock-crushing project between Brush Hill and Stockhouse roads would cause too much disruption in the quiet town, according to local sources. Rawson Materials of Putnam, Conn., has proposed the quarry.
Proponents say the company will be good neighbors, adding $90,000 to the town tax base, and providing eight jobs for the next 20 to 30 years. Opponents say this is not a case of “not in my backyard” but rather “not in the center of town.” Bozrah Town Hall sits at the base of the hill where the quarry would be located.
There are also concerns about truck traffic on the rural roads. Additional public hearings on the proposal are planned.
