ODNR’s Abandoned Mine Land Program Wins Award

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Program has won the U.S. Department of the Interior’s (USDOI) Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation National Award for its work on the Dessecker Mine Project in Tuscarawas County. ODNR was honored at the 2019 AML Reclamation Awards in Pittsburgh on Sept. 9.

Bill Protecting California’s Birds Clears State Legislature

With a California Senate vote of 29-4, a bill strengthening the state’s protections for migratory birds beyond those specified under federal law cleared the California Legislature.

Argent Materials Helps Fund California Clean-Up Project

Oakland’s Argent Materials joined last month’s “Battle for the Bay” Cleanup Challenge as a lead sponsor with a $50,000 donation – tying the largest to date – and commitment to field dozens of volunteers and host a community cleanup in its East Oakland neighborhood, in partnership with Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley.

EPA Withdraws Waters of the U.S. Rule

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has withdrawn the 2015 Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule. “This is a positive step forward to realizing a more achievable WOTUS rule,” stated the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA).

Granite Facility Recognized as a California Green Business

Granite announced that its Santa Clara Asphalt facility in Santa Clara, Calif., has been recognized as a California Green Business by the California Green Business Network in acknowledgement of its efforts to conserve resources and prevent pollution to help make Santa Clara County a more sustainable community. Granite is the only asphalt plant with this designation in California.
