Senate Bill Would Allow States to Opt Out of Highway Programs

On July 28, 14 senators introduced a bill titled the "State Transportation Flexibility Act" that would allow state transportation departments to opt out of federal-aid highway and mass-transit programs.

Knife River Names New Division Presidents

Knife River Corp. named Rob Rebel the new president for its Central North Dakota Division. “Rob has a comprehensive career in the construction industry and has a proven track record of improving operations, effectively managing assets and guiding large work forces,” said Tim Crennen, president of Knife River’s Central Area.

Rockydale Quarries Acquires Two Quarry Locations

Rockydale Quarries Corp. announced the acquisition of two quarry locations from C.S. Mundy Quarries Inc. The ownership change was effective July 1. The new locations will operate as the Rockydale-Flatrock Quarry located in Shenandoah County, Va., and the Rockydale-Broadway Quarry located outside of Harrisonburg, Va., in Rockingham County.

AEM Proposes Revenue-Neutral Solution to Rebuilding America’s Interstates

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) released a revenue-neutral solution to rebuild and modernize America’s interstates without raising the gas tax. The proposal, advanced by AEM in an ongoing effort to reinvigorate the stalled debate on infrastructure investment financing, was developed by Jack Schenendorf, former vice chairman of the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, of counsel, Covington & Burling LLP; and Elizabeth Bell, associate, Covington & Burling LLP.
