Trip Releases Biggest Traffic Headaches And Remedies

A new report released jointly today by AASHTO and TRIP entitled “America’s Top Five Transportation Headaches – and Their Remedies,” identifies crumbling roads and bridges, growing traffic jams, crowded transit systems and rail cars, an unacceptably high rate of traffic crashes and fatalities, and insufficient funding as the top five transportation headaches ailing the nation.

Nssga Sustainability Booklet Wins For Design

The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association booklet, Guiding Principles for Sustainability, has won a Gold Award from Association TRENDS Magazine in the category of an association publication. Association TRENDS All-Media Contest is an annual competition held exclusively for associations. This year's competition included nearly 400 overall entries, with 27 different categories. The award was given for the design and production of a 22-page booklet highlighting the activities of NSSGA and the industry's contributions to sustainability.

Miles Sand & Gravel Takes Safety Award

Kevin Davis, safety coordinator for Miles Sand & Gravel, Auburn, Wash., has been named NSSGA's James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional. The award will be presented at NSSGA's Honors Awards ceremony on Monday, March 9, 2009, in Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with its 2009 Annual Convention

Construction Companies Plan For Layoffs

An estimated two-thirds of the nation’s non-residential construction companies are planning to cut their payrolls, according to new employment and business forecast figures released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. All told, those layoffs are forecast to result in a 30 percent decline in the number of people working on construction projects
