LaFarge North America is seeking permits to expand its quarry operation near Buffalo. According to a notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, LaFarge is planning to expand its quarry operation to a 71.7-acre area of the company’s property just north of its existing 350-acre quarry.
The project would include relocating about 5,510 linear ft. of stream and the excavation of 0.02 acres of wetland, which would be mitigated by expanding the area and establishing native wetland plants.
The expansion is part of the natural progression of the quarry and will not affect the operations of the Davenport cement plant, company spokeswoman Joelle Lipski-Rockwood said. The public is allowed to comment on the project as part of the permit process.
