According to the San Francisco Examiner, dredge mining of shoals near Angel and Alcatraz islands and throughout Suisun Bay is robbing the bay of sand that keeps San Francisco's Ocean Beach from eroding.

Permit Decision Expected

According to the Times-Leader, following what was the eighth in a series of public hearings on the proposed expansion of the Pennsy Supply Corp. quarry on Small Mountain Road, the Torrance Township, Pa., supervisors said they will announce a decision on the company’s application for a conditional use permit on Jan. 3.

Canadian Mega-Quarry Stopped

The saga of the Canadian Mega-Quarry is over. The application to build a massive quarry in Melancthon Township near Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, has been withdrawn.

Lafarge Seeks Permit

LaFarge North America is seeking permits to expand its quarry operation near Buffalo. According to a notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, LaFarge is planning to expand its quarry operation to a 71.7-acre area of the company’s property just north of its existing 350-acre quarry.

Missouri Quarry Denied Pemit

The Eastern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals has denied a motion by Strack Excavating LLC of Cape Girardeau to operate a quarry near a Jackson, Mo., high school and has set a briefing schedule for the parties involved in the appeals process.
