Presque Isle Bay Removed from Great Lakes “Area of Concern” List

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that Presque Isle Bay, on the Pennsylvania shore of Lake Erie, has been removed from the list of heavily contaminated Great Lakes sites targeted for cleanup by the U.S.-Canada Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Environmental conditions in Presque Isle Bay have significantly improved due to actions taken by federal, state and local government. Studies have shown that revitalized waterways, like Presque Isle Bay, can benefit the local economy and better protect people’s health. Presque Isle Bay is now the second site in the nation to be taken off the list of Great Lakes “Areas of Concern” (AOCs).

ANSI Approves Next Generation Green Building Standard

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC) applaud the recent approval of the 2012 ICC 700 National Green Building Standard. In 2007, NAHB and the ICC partnered to establish a nationally recognizable standard definition of green building.

Cemex to Focus on Water Management

Starting this year, this methodology will be rolled out to all of the businesses in the countries in which Cemex operates in order to minimize the company’s water footprint and increase its water efficiency.

Study Links Mining Economic Growth, Environmental Stewardship
