Caterpillar Included in Sustainability Yearbook

Caterpillar is included in the RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook 2013. On Jan. 22, Caterpillar received notification of inclusion in the Yearbook in the Industrial Engineering sector and was congratulated by RobecoSAM for outstanding achievements in the area of sustainability.

Proposed ASTM Standard Targets Recycled Concrete

A proposed new ASTM International standard will cover the process, verification and record keeping procedures for recycling returned fresh concrete. The proposed standard, ASTM WK39876, Specification for Returned Fresh Concrete for Use in a New Batch of Ready-Mixed Concrete, is being developed by Subcommittee C09.40 on Ready-Mixed Concrete, part of ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates.

Presque Isle Bay Removed from Great Lakes “Area of Concern” List

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that Presque Isle Bay, on the Pennsylvania shore of Lake Erie, has been removed from the list of heavily contaminated Great Lakes sites targeted for cleanup by the U.S.-Canada Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Environmental conditions in Presque Isle Bay have significantly improved due to actions taken by federal, state and local government. Studies have shown that revitalized waterways, like Presque Isle Bay, can benefit the local economy and better protect people’s health. Presque Isle Bay is now the second site in the nation to be taken off the list of Great Lakes “Areas of Concern” (AOCs).

Cemex to Focus on Water Management

Cemex has developed a methodology to standardize water management across all of the company’s operations. Starting this year, this methodology will be rolled out to all of the businesses in the countries in which Cemex operates in order to minimize the company’s water footprint and increase its water efficiency.
