Explosives manufacturer Dyno Nobel traces its roots back to Alfred Nobel and his pivotal invention of dynamite. The name dynamite is derived from the Greek word dýnamis, meaning power. This year marks 150 years of progression due to the power of dynamite.

NIOSH Releases Updated Hazard Assessment Software

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) now offers more ways to reveal hazards on the job. EVADE 2.0 can pull together video footage and exposure data on dust, diesel and gases, as well as sound into one display for a more comprehensive view of the hazards miners face. The software synchronizes all the incoming data files to show changing exposure levels alongside the video.

ClickSafety Launches New Online Miner Safety Courses

ClickSafety, a provider of online safety training for the construction and general industries, released its online surface mining safety courses, MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Part 1 (Site Entry), and MSHA 8-Hour Mine Safety and Health Refresher. The courses are designed to help meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Part 46 Training Regulations.

MSHA Issues Alert for Prevention of Falls

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued a “Metal and Nonmetal Mine Safety Alert Preventing Fall of Person Accidents.” In the past decade, 29 miners have died at metal and nonmetal (MNM) mines when they fell from the area where they worked, such as heavy equipment, ladders and conveyor walkways.
