Minnesota Plant Violates Permit Requirement

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating a company that it said did not have the necessary permits when it started construction on a silica sand processing plant in Harris. The building is now almost completed, according to KARA TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Frac Sand Loading Plant Will Serve Muskie Proppant

According to the Chippewa Herald, when Pat Bischel heard that Muskie Proppant was encountering resistance in locating a frac sand loading plant in Eau Claire, Wis., he got to work. The result is a sand loading facility that will wind up on property west of the Chippewa Falls, Wis., city limits.

Natural Resource Partners Acquires Wisconsin Frac Sand Royalty

Natural Resource Partners L.P., Houston, reported the acquisition of an overriding royalty interest in frac sand reserves located on approximately 561 acres near Wyeville, Wis.,for a purchase price of $15 million. The acquisition was funded from NRP's credit facility.

Frac Sand Firm, Opponents Face Off in Iowa

According to The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, opposition is rapidly mounting to a proposed frac sand operation in Allamakee County. “Mining interests are coming at us like a runaway bulldozer going 100 mph,” said Ric Zarwell of Lansing, leader of the Allamakee County Protectors, a growing cadre of local residents opposed to a proposal by a Minnesota firm to mine sand southwest of Lansing, near the Mississippi River.
