The Temecula, Calif., city council authorized a two-person committee to review a decision to reject a proposed annexation that would thwart a Granite Construction quarry, the Valley News reports.
Granite Construction wants to mine more than 270 million tons from a 155-acre portion of its site. Mining on the Liberty Quarry site could last 75 years. That land is on the same area the city tried to annex.
If the annexation denial is upheld, land-use decisions regarding the proposed quarry site would fall to Riverside County officials, the paper reported.
