Production Takes a Step Forward


usgsFebruary 28, 2013 – USGS just reported full-year 2012 production numbers, and aggregates production has taken a step forward. The estimated annual output of construction aggregates produced for consumption in 2012 was 1.99 billion metric tons (Gt), a slight increase compared with that of 2011's total of 1.93 Gt. An estimated 484 million metric tons (Mt) of total construction aggregates was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2012, a slight decrease compared with that of the same period of 2011.  Of the 2012 total, the estimated annual output of crushed stone produced for consumption was 1.16 Gt, a slight increase compared with that of 2011. An estimated 282 Mt of crushed stone was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2012, a slight decrease compared with that of the same period of 2011. Of the 2012 total, the estimated annual output of construction sand and gravel produced for consumption was 823 Mt, a slight increase compared with that of 2011. The estimated U.S. output of construction sand and gravel produced and shipped for consumption in the fourth quarter of 2012 was 202 Mt, a slight increase compared with that of the same period of 2011.
