Lafarge Quarries Sold to Vulcan
- Written by Mark Kuhar
January 17, 2013 – Lafarge North America Inc. just sold six quarries in Georgia, four of which were purchased by Bluegrass Materials Co., the company spearheaded by the Baker family, of Florida Rock fame. While Lafarge did not disclose the buyer of the other two quarries, Rock Products has learned that The Flowery Branch location, as well as a Jackson County site, were sold to Vulcan Materials. An industry M&A analyst, who prefers to remain anonymous, is telling me that Lafarge is not done selling quarries. He also predicts that the Martin Marietta Materials/Vulcan Materials deal may be closer to being completed than anyone thinks. In any case, increased merger and acquisition activity in this industry is a good sign, as companies position themselves for the coming rise of the industry market.
