January 4, 2011 – The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) just released October cement shipment numbers, and the results are encouraging. Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for October 2010 were 7.0 million metric tons (Mt). This was 14 percent higher than shipments in October 2009. Year-to-date shipments through October were 60.1 Mt, down slightly from those of the same period in 2009. The leading producing States (Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in descending order) shipped 41 percent of the October total. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, in descending order) received about 33 percent of October's total shipments, according to USGS.
