ARTBA Urban Mobility Report Due

artbaFebruary 4, 2013  – The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) annual “Urban Mobility Report” will be released tomorrow. I have it on good authority that the report will detail how traffic congestion costs and the number of lost hours wasted in traffic will balloon by 2020 if Washington maintains the status quo.

McLanahan Corp. Acquires Eagle Iron Works

McLanahan_LogoJanuary 23, 2013 — What has been rumored for awhile now has been officially announced: McLanahan Corp. has acquired Eagle Iron Works, a well-known industry name with a worldwide reputation. Eagle Iron Works has been serving the construction materials and aggregate industries since 1872.

Lafarge Quarries Sold to Vulcan

January 17, 2013 – Lafarge North America Inc. just sold six quarries in Georgia, four of which were purchased by Bluegrass Materials Co., the company spearheaded by the Baker family, of Florida Rock fame. While Lafarge did not disclose the buyer of the other two quarries, Rock Products has learned that The Flowery Branch location, as well as a Jackson County site, were sold to Vulcan Materials.

Cement Going Up

January 14, 2013 – Shipments of cement keep going up, according to USGS. Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for October 2012 were about 8.1 million metric tons (Mt). This was almost 10 percent greater than shipments in October 2011.
