Hi-Crush Surges Forward in Fourth Quarter, Full Year 2017

Hi-Crush Partners LP reported fourth quarter and full-year 2017 results. Revenues for the fourth quarter of 2017 totaled $216.5 million on sales of 2,985,115 tons of frac sand. This compares to $167.6 million of revenues on sales of 2,456,195 tons of frac sand in the third quarter of 2017.

U.S. Silica Holdings 2017 Revenue Up 122 Percent

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. fourth-quarter revenue totaled $360.6 million compared with $182.4 million for the same period last year, an increase of 98 percent on a year-over-year basis, and an increase of 5 percent sequentially over the third quarter of 2017. Overall tons sold totaled 4.022 million, up 40 percent compared to 2.872 million tons sold in the fourth quarter of 2016 and relatively flat sequentially with the third quarter of 2017.

Industrial Sand Production Rose 33 Percent in 2017

In 2017, U.S. apparent consumption of industrial sand and gravel was 100 million tons, a 33 percent increase from the previous year, owing primarily to increased activity in the oil and gas sector. Production - valued at about $3.5 billion - was produced by about 200 companies from 340 operations in 35 States, according to USGS Mineral Commodity Specialist Thomas Dolley.
