Current developments in the area of oils and lubes focus on performance, longevity and successful implementation.

Any aggregates producer will tell you that his rolling stock is only as good as the oil and lubricants that keep it running. Here are some of the latest developments targeting machine operations and preventive maintenance.

Clean Fuel and Lubricant Solutions
Donaldson Co. offers Clean Fuel and Lubricant Solutions, an integral partner for your operation's contamination-control-strategies. The company offers a wide array of bulk liquid filtration products, coupled with expertise in system design and best practices.

Dirt and water are the enemies of fuels and lubricants, robbing vehicles and equipment of performance and longevity. Removing contaminant with bulk filtration prior to pumping fluids into equipment allows on-board filtration systems to do their job better, while supporting the advanced system technology required to meet new regulations. Donaldson recommends a three-step philosophy to protect your investment, from delivery right until the final point of use:

Clean. Donaldson's single-pass filtration on the inlet reduces the risk of contamination in bulk storage tanks and helps maintain desired cleanliness levels. Compact and easy to replace, Donaldson filters are an important line of defense in maintaining fluid cleanliness and can be configured for high flow rates while minimizing pressure drop.

Protect. Water absorbing filters, T.R.A.P. Breathers and Active Reservoir Vent (ARV) products reduce the risk of moisture and contaminants entering a bulk storage tank so fluids are kept clean and dry. Used together, they help guard from free water, airborne contaminants and microbial growth for as long as they stay in storage.

Polish. Unstable fluids and the tank itself can be a source of contamination. Final filtration on the outlet ensures that target ISO cleanliness levels are achieved.

Donaldson Co,

Reliable Lubrication in Critical Areas
Superior Industries’ offers a new, single-point, programmable lubricator. The automatic greaser increases plant safety, allowing maintenance workers to apply time to other projects; and ensures greasing cycles are conducted on time, extending the life of conveyor components.

Unlike other automatic greasing systems, these units are temperature-independent and suitable for applications within a wide temperature range (-4 F up to 140 F). A built-in sensor periodically measures the ambient temperature and the control unit calculates the required gas generation based on this data. This ensures a continuous and controlled discharge.

Suitable for single-point lubrication of roller and sliding bearings, shaft seals and chains, Superior’s auto greaser consists of a reusable control unit, a lubricant canister filled with 4.4 oz. of grease and a protection cover. Discharge settings can range from 1 to 12 months. No assembly or special tools are required. Just unpack, set to the desired discharge period and screw into your lubrication point.

Significant Fuel Economy Benefits
Chevron Products Co., a Chevron U.S.A. Inc. division, maker of the Delo brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, announced its latest product, Delo 400 LE Synthetic SAE 5W-30, which can deliver significant fuel economy benefits.

The product is designed to provide maximum fuel economy improvements while meeting industry and engine manufacturers’ performance requirements and is ideal for heavy- and medium-duty trucks operating both on- and off-highway as specified by the OEM.

Delo 400 LE Synthetic SAE 5W-30 is a mixed-fleet gasoline and diesel motor oil recommended for engines in which the API CJ-4 or API SN service categories and SAE 5W-30 viscosity grade are recommended. The oil is designed to meet the demands of EGR and EGR/SCR engines while also providing the highest levels of performance in other diesel engine technologies.

Delo 400 LE Synthetic SAE 5W-30 can deliver up to 4.5 percent fuel economy improvement with short haul trucks (Class 6) and up to 2 percent with long haul trucks (Class 8) when compared to SAE 15W-40 reference oil in SAE J1321 fuel consumption testing. For fleets, the savings associated with these fuel economy improvements can be substantial.
