More Merger Mania

Merger AheadApril 5, 2014 – The word on the street is that Holcim and Lafarge are in advanced merger discussions. In statements, the companies emphasized that no agreement had yet been reached, and that there was no guarantee of a deal. But they pointed to a "strong complementarity" and "cultural proximity" between their operations. A merger would allow the companies to cut costs, trim debt and reduce the sector's global overcapacity. Holcim (US) has approximately 1,800 employees and operates 13 cement and aggregates plants and more than 70 distribution facilities in the United States. Lafarge NA has 8,821 employees and operates 17 cement plants, 149 aggregates operations and 185 ready mix plants in the United States.
