Rally for Roads

Rally-For-RoadsMarch 20,  2012 – The people have spoken! The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association, along with members of 15 transportation construction industry associations gathered in Washington D.C., for the second annual RALLY for ROADS, the nation’s largest transportation funding advocacy rally. In his address to NSSGA’s board of directors on March 13, newly elected Chairman Ron Summers, senior vice president, Materials Group, CalPortland Co., Glendora, Calif., said that the number-one challenge he plans to tackle during his tenure as chairman is the need for continued education of elected officials and voters.   He said, “This goal works hand-in-hand with the need for a long-term, fully funded transportation bill.  While people use our country's transportation systems every day, they don’t think about the fact that so many of the roads they travel need to be repaired, expanded or fully replaced. Our legislators and voters don’t really understand what is at stake. We can never lose sight of the fact that one of our responsibilities is to educate the public about the need for better roads.” Leading bipartisan Members of Congress joined hundreds of members of the transportation construction industry and its suppliers at the rally. “America’s infrastructure is vital to economic growth and job creation,” said Kerri Leininger, a RALLY for ROADS spokesperson and the senior vice president of government and political affairs for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. “America’s transportation needs are too great, and its impact on the nation’s economic health and well-being are too substantial to delay passage of a surface transportation bill any longer.”
