Land of 10,000 Lakes

October 27, 2011 – Blogging live this week from Minnesota, Land of 10,000 Lakes. USGS reports that in the second quarter, Minnesota produced 11 million mt of aggregates, down 4.4 percent from last year's second quarter. Minnesota has always been a strong aggregates state, so no doubt production will climb again soon. Also, it was here in 2007 that the I-35 bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed, sending shock waves across the country, and providing a tragic example of what happens when we neglect our roads and bridges. Let's hope it doesn’t take another such tragedy to wake Congress up to the importance of infrastructure investment.
