July 22, 2011 – Nothing is safe in your quarry, especially copper. According to news reports, thieves made off with more than $20,000 worth of copper wire from two Illinois businesses sometime between Monday afternoon and early Tuesday. The theft happened sometime between 4:30 p.m. on Monday and 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday at 10501 Joliet Rd. in the village of Lisbon, according to a report from the Kendall County Sheriff’s office. Employees of Macklin Inc. of Rochelle and Lafarge Aggregates, of Morris, reported to sheriff’s police that more than $20,000 of copper wire from their equipment was taken. There are no suspects and the theft remains under investigation. At about $3.50 per lb., scrap copper is easy cash. So protect your copper.
